Hello and Welcome to the Irish Photo Art Blog.

As this website contains mainly Irish/Celtic wall art content, plus some American images and a little meander into Europe, all of the photographs are created with an Irish attitude/mind set, so there is a common thread across all the galleries. Therefore, most of the posts will be about those images, back stories, unusual situations, a little of the technical, and the attitude, connections and emotions, that brought about their creation.

Irish/Celtic spiralsWe will begin with the back story of the spirals. There are spirals spread throughout the website, in the logos, and in the page background on almost every page. The spiral is a part of a long and rich Irish heritage dating back many centuries. The single spiral is a symbol of the Celtic people and represents the constant movement of the cosmos and a symbol of continuous growth.

We have used the triple spiral extensively throughout the site and these are taken from the carvings on the great entrance stone to the passage graves at The Bruna Boinne,  Newgrange complex in County Meath. These stones were hand carved with primitive tools by the early Celts around 3000 BC, which makes them older than the Pyramids. The great entrance stone is regarded as the most remarkable stone in megalithic art in the world, with each carved motive having a meaning all of its own.

The triple spiral has many interpretations, and represents the Triads of ancient Ireland. Those Triads were cultural observations on life and many have been handed down into modern times. Like ‘The Tri-Sceal’ or three stories, representing the Natural, the Human, and the Devine aspects of life. Or another is, the ‘Three most beautiful things to see’ a garden covered in blossoms, a full rigged ship, and a woman with child. And yet another Triad – ‘Three things that cannot be acquired’ - Voice, Generosity and Poetry.

Our own Triad here at Irish Photo Art is the three requisites for a meaningful life.

To walk the land and experience the richness and beauty of the Irish Landscape, bringing balance to your body.  To listen to and experience the rhythms and essence of Irish music, bringing spiritualty to your soul, and to mix with good company and keep real friendships close, bringing you peace of mind.

We sincerely hope that you experience a little of all three, every time you visit us here at Irish Photo Art.
