An authentic visual display of a way of life, that even in modern times, transports us all into the living past.

They came from Germany’s Palatinate, to the fertile lands of Lancaster County in Pennsylvania, in the early 1700’s, fleeing religious persecution. The Old Order Amish brought with them a strict way of life that includes plain garb, homes that are simple and peaceful, without any modern conveniences. Other characteristics that travelled with the Amish and remains as strong today as they were in the 17^th century include a genuine conviction in relation to faith and family, and farming skills that are the envy of the World. The Amish have their own schools and language and even with their somewhat medieval culture, still are an expanding minority community with groups in twelve states in the USA  The Amish culture bears a striking resemblance to Ireland of the 40s – 50s.
